Because I've begun to look at Sound as a possible Dimension in and of Itself, I am also considering investigating this same idea concerning all of the Five Senses as well as the Four Main Classical (or Western - Earth, Air, Fire, Water) Elements. Some aspects are a little more difficult for me than others simply because my awareness falls most strongly with Sound. Yet I feel I may be able to inversely use it as my basis to begin to understand the others.
I've always liked the book The Holographic Universe by Michael Talbotbecause it certainly puts into question what our minds are perceiving and what is or is not actually out there. Certainly Science, or at least Quantum Science, is coming to the idea that everything is more a matter of frequency, pattern and density rather than any sort of true solidity. To me it seems like it all comes down to various lines of energy, their elasticity and ability to sustain their affect. One can argue about particles, but they, too, seem engulfed in the energy lines, having no true solidity of their own.
When I experience Music/Sound, I am experiencing the lines of energy and patterns they make. And for me, I seem to tap into something much larger. There is a genuine sense of a Gateway that surrounds me. Of colors, smells, feelings, and most of all, landscape. With a very palpable feeling of moving through the Universe that is hard to express.
It is not as all encompassing for me, but I do sense this with light and color, too. That it touches beyond, that there are doorways that I see filtering through. Things that reflect off the images of buildings and trees, like shards of elsewhere. When I feel a breeze move through I am encompassed by other awareness beyond the coolness on my skin, as if a breath of something other moved through me with its own stir of life. Taste can flash all manner of colors, images, etc., which can be part and parcel of a Synesthete's palate, yet I also sense something beyond. That if I could follow that taste, that breeze, that shaft of light it may well lead me into new and exciting possibilities.
What I am looking at is the potential that the Reality we call the Physical is in point of fact a composite of many Realities or Dimensions that touch through each other. Like strings crossing or layers that also intersect. And that there may well be bleed throughs, though I do not wish to debate or discuss that sort of aspect to any great degree at this time.
I would, however, like to examine the physical properties of all these Elements and Senses to see how they might fit as a Dimensional World as well as my own personal impressions. I am also considering looking back at various Peoples' Mythologies throughout the World and History because they may well be giving intuitive impressions of these Element and Sense Dimensional Realities if examined a little bit more.
I do hope to at least write up some Exercises for this because I think it would be an interesting experiment for both myself and hopefully others. It might even help one to bring in these Elements and Senses more strongly in one's mind and daily life. Basically those Exercises in general would be something like; if you were to see Wind (Music, Light, Taste, Earth, etc.) as person - what would they look like, be like, etc.? Other questions, too, but that's a good starting point as personification is what we, as humans, do, and relate to, best. It would also help us reflect on what and how our Ancestors responded to these possibilities and hopefully bring that aspect closer to us as well. For them it may have helped to open doors that we have forgotten about. Perhaps it may open some for us as well. But also, perhaps, with more critical and reflective eyes.
